ISLAMABAD, March 18: The supply of petrol, diesel and other products remained suspended from main terminals to filling stations in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday.

The supply was suspended due to a strike observed by All Pakistan Oil Tanker Workers’ League (APOTWL) against frequent increase in the prices of petroleum products, imposition of income tax on old-model oil tankers and policies of Pakistan State Oil (PSO).

As a result of the strike, residents of the twin cities faced shortage of petrol and mobil oil, which might intensify on Wednesday.

The strike is being observed on a countrywide strike call given by the Supreme Council of Transporters chairman, Yousaf Shewani.

During the strike, oil tankers suspended supply of petroleum products from Sihala, Morgah, Attock Petroleum Limited and Caltex terminals.

The APOTWL president, Raja Saeed, and vice-president of the league told Dawn that supply of fuel to Islamabad International Airport had also been stopped, which would lead to disturbance in flight schedule.

The officials said they would stop supplying fuel to Afghanistan if their demands were not met.
