Shahbaz, 6, and Shazia and Anam, both 5, were playing on the roof of their house. The eaves of the house collapsed when they stepped on it and they fell on the ground. A part of the concrete structure fell on them and they died before they were pulled from under the rubble.
PROTEST: Employees of city tehsil council and workers of unions staged a sit-in outside labour department office for not arranging referendum.
They gathered outside office after parading on GT Road. They demanded that a date for referendum should be announced as directed by a Punjab labour court.
Instead of accepting their demand, the district labour officer informed the police. Later, he accepted the workers demand after meeting with police officers and workers leaders and fixed March 21 for referendum.
Fake secretary held: An income tax commissioner on Tuesday got arrested a man, who posed himself as the federal defence secretary, and demanded facilities for his stay in Gujranwala.
Reports said the fake secretary phoned IT Commissioner Mian Tahir a few days ago and introduced himself as Kamran Aslam, defence secretary in Islamabad. He also claimed that he would soon be appointed the Punjab chief secretary.
Having introduced himself, the caller asked the commissioner to arrange two room coolers for him as he was coming to Gujranwala. The man, who claimed himself to be a grade 22 officer, also asked the commissioner to receive him at the Gujranwala railway station, as he was coming by train instead of using official vehicle for his private tour.
Mr Tahir suggested that he should ask his subordinates to arrange two coolers for him, but he insisted that he didn’t want to get favours from his subordinates.
The commissioner promised him that he would arrange coolers for him on his arrival in the district. On Tuesday, he again called the IT official and asked him to receive him at the station. The commissioner received him and took him to his office.
Smelling a rat, he called the cantonment police SHO, who reached there with a team. Some other senior income tax officials came there. In the presence of senior officials, the fake defence secretary became confused and told all about himself.
