KARACHI: School education to be regulated

KARACHI, March 18: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has stressed the need for regulating school education, both in private and public sectors, in the province.

Speaking in a meeting at the Governors’ House on Tuesday, the governor issued directives for making school management committees more functional. The meeting also discussed the ongoing school education system and suggested steps for its improvement.

It was decided that the education department would submit a report by April 15 in consultation with concerned people and institutions. The governor, in this regard, called for updating the laws and regulations.

He said necessary standards should be formulated in schools, including hygiene, security, basic needs with scope for expansion, computer labs and extracurricular activities.

He pointed out that private educational institutions were playing an important role but there was a need for redressal of grievances regarding fee structure, academic and non-academic facilities and teachers’ service structure.

Dr Ibad requested parents to take interest in school management committees to resolve the problems of private and public sector schools.

He issued directives to the education department and the district governments to initiate special measures for bringing improvement to government schools.

The meeting was informed that two government schools at each town and taluka levels were being given the status of model schools where all facilities, including computer, would be provided. Besides, 1200 primary schools were being upgraded to middle level, through which dropout ratio could be reduced.

It was stated that from this year, nursery education was also being initiated in government schools to facilitate children.

The meeting was told that Rs50 million are being spent on the training of teachers.—APP
