KARACHI: Illegal building

Published March 19, 2003

KARACHI, March 18: A division bench of the High Court of Sindh directed the Karachi Building Control Authority on Tuesday to take action against an illegally-constructed building.

The bench comprised Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice S. Ali Aslam Jafri.

The bench was hearing a constitutional petition filed by Ms Ameena Bai, who challenged an action by the KBCA against an illegal construction being raised on a plot next to her house.

Earlier, the bench pardoned a KBCA official, Saghir Hussain, who was charged with contempt of court as he made a mis-statement in an affidavit he submitted before a bench of the SHC.

The bench accepted unconditional apology tendered by the alleged contemnor and dropped the contempt proceedings and disposing of the petition directed KBCA officials to take appropriate action against the illegal construction.

Another bench of the SHC, consisting of Justice Shabbir Ahmed and Justice Azizullah M. Memon, put off the hearing of the bail plea of Usman Farooqui, former chairman of the Pakistan Steel Mills. — APP
