India pulls out of Azlan Shah Cup

NEW DELHI, March 17: India has pulled out its field hockey team from the Sultan Azlan Shah tournament due to be held in Malaysia between March 22 to 30 in the wake of rounding up by police of Indian IT professionals.

“No, they are not going and you know about the kind of treatment which was meted out to 200 Indian IT professionals in the country,” foreign ministry spokesman Navtaj Sarna told reporters Monday, in response to a query.

New Delhi had earlier warned that the issue was affecting relations between the two countries, which have strong economic links, and asked for an explanation about the March 9 incident.—AFP
