Row between Nazim, deputy aggravates: Executive powers

GUJRANWALA, March 17: A conflict between the city tehsil council Nazim and Naib Nazim reached its climax over the use of executive powers while Naib Nazims formed a mediation committee for compromise here on Monday.
The tussle between city Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad and Naib Nazim Ehsanullah Chaudhry, son of former federal minister Haji Amanullah, had been going on for the last one year. While most of the city council meetings had been sabotaged due to their non-cooperation.
The projects of construction work in union councils are also suffering badly. The Naib Nazim moved local bodies government high-ups against the Nazim and got initiated an inquiry. While the Nazim had allegedly foiled an attempt of the Naib Nazim to convene a tehsil council meeting some two weeks ago.
Members of both the groups — treasury and opposition — wanted to create harmony between them. For this purpose, they held a meeting at the residence of UC Naib Nazim Khalid Ahmad Shah and formed the mediation committee comprising noted councillors and citizens. The committee later held separate meetings with the city Nazim and Naib Nazim and conveyed to them the wishes of the members of the house. Both of them assured cooperation with the mediation committee for the removal of differences.
UPGRADED: The Punjab government has upgraded two middle schools for boys and girls to high schools in Maju Chak, Kamoki, with an expenditure of Rs2 million besides the provision of better facilities to students and teachers.
This was stated by provincial Transport Minister Chaudhry Shamshad Khan while speaking at the upgradation ceremony of schools at Maju Chak on Monday.
He said that Rs1 million had already been spent while the remaining amount would be spent by the end of the current fiscal year. He said the Kamoki to Tetley Road was being doubled with an expenditure of Rs20 million. At least Rs5 million would be shared from the MPAs grant while Rs15 million would be provided by the Punjab government.
Provincial Food Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal and MPA Amanat Ali Virk said the government was taking solid steps for the promotion of education by offering free education up to matric.
They announced that the government would give away gold medals and cash prizes between Rs2,000 and Rs5,000 to students who got over 60 per cent marks in the annual examinations of middle and secondary classes.
SUSPENDED: DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal suspended there policemen, including an SHO, on the charge of negligence and issued show-cause notices to them here on Monday.
Lasser Kalan (Narowal) SHO Muhammad Ashraf, Shah Gharib (Narowal) and Mandi Bahauddin ASIs Ghafoor and Muhammad Inayat were found guilty in an inquiry.
Meanwhile, DPO Saud Aziz also suspended Peoples Colony constable Muhammad Sufian from service for negligence and issued him a show-cause notice.
CLUE FOUND: Aroop police claim to have found the clue to blind murder of a taxi cab driver and arrested an accused here on Monday.
Police said Saeed had killed his friend Muhammad Ashraf near Sangowali village some two weeks ago and drove away with his vehicle after throwing his body in a nearby field. He confessed to his crime during an interrogation, police said.
