HYDERABAD, March 17: A woman who received burn injuries three days back has been admitted to the burns ward at the Liaquat Medical University Hospital, Hyderabad.

The woman, Shabana, resident of Nusrat Colony, Hyderabad, in a statement before Dr Qamar and Dr Ashok, accused her husband, Sher Khan, of trying to burn her alive.

She said in the statement, a copy of which was obtained by Dawn, her husband did not have a regular job due to which it had become difficult to manage the house.

She said on March 12, when her husband was away, her father-in-law, Dilshad, and brother-in-law, Salamo, came to the house and beaten her up, also taking away Rs10,000 from her which had been given by her father.

She said on the next day her husband sprinkled kerosene oil on her body and set her ablaze.

She said her life was saved by her brother-in-law (also her sister’s husband), Faqir Mohammad, and his younger brother, Chand Mohammad, by extinguishing the fire.

She said she was then taken to the civil hospital.

The Gulshan-i-Hali police have registered the case and reportedly detained the husband of the woman, her father-in-law and brother-in-law.
