Five booked in Astore

GILGIT, March 16: Police on Friday brought five people to book in Gurikot village, Astore, over charges of hurling stones at people proceeding to attend Ashura procession, sources told Dawn.

The people of Shia community were coming from Parishing to attend the Ashura procession in the central Astore when the accused hurled stones at the tractor trolley, they were travelling in, the sources said, adding that the reason was raising religious slogans.

Ashura procession had to be delayed for three hours in the central imambargah of Astore due to the incident till the army defused the tension.

ACCIDENT: In a road accident in Astore 16 people, who were coming from Tarishing to the central Astore for attending Ashura procession on Friday in a tractor trolley (GLT-2156), were injured when their vehicle skidded off the road.
