SWABI, March 16: Expelled ANP MPA Sarfaraz Khan Jadoon swore before a local jirga here that he had not sold his vote in the recently-held Senate elections.

Mr Jadoon was in Karachi when the ANP leadership took the decision on expelling its three MPAs for allegedly voting for rival candidates in the Senate polls, according to sources.

At the jirga held at the ANP district president and a former MNA, Haji Rehmanullah Khan, Mr Jadoon swore before a sizable audience that he had not violated the party discipline, the sources said.

The jirga members and Mr Jadoon held talks with the ANP president about the party’s decision and its likely impact on the party.

Mr Jadoon said that if anyone proved that he had sold his vote, he would tender resignation from the membership of the provincial assembly.

He alleged that some party members had poisoned the minds of the central leadership against him, which, he claimed, led to his expulsion from ANP.

The sources said that Mr Jadoon expressed resentment over the unilateral decision, saying he should have been given a chance to clear his position and prove that he had not betrayed the party.

After the jirga talks, a committee was constituted that would hold further talks with the ANP leadership about Mr Jadoon’s fate.

“There is no justification that the party should stick to the decision after Mr Jadoon swore on the holy Quran that he had not sold his vote or polled it against his party candidates,” the sources quoted the jirga members as saying.
