GUJRAT, March 16: Two persons were killed and at least three injured seriously when a bus going from Mandi Bahauddin to Jhelum plunged into the Upper Jhelum Canal at Bhalwal Gharbi on Sunday.

Sources said the driver lost control of the bus (LEX-1985) due to over-speeding.

The dead were identified as Sarwar Begum of Mandi Bahaudin and Mohammad Nawaz of Sargodha and the injured as Mohammad Hayat, Iqbal and Hawaldar Ashraf.

The injured were admitted to the DHQ Hospital in Jhelum.

At least 30 people were rescued. The bus was also removed from the canal.

The rescue operation was on when this report was filed on Sunday evening.
