LAHORE, March 15: Pakistan second string thrashed Greece 7-0 in their last league match and claimed second place in the 7-Nation Akhbar Al-Youm hockey tournament in Cairo Saturday, according to a facsimile message received here from Egypt.
Pakistan with three victories to their credit including Scotland, France and Greece collected 12 points for the runners up place ahead of India whom they edged out with one point. Poland won the title with 16 points.
Pakistan drew with holders Poland, India and hosts Egypt n the week long tournament.
Pakistan gained another distinction when their goal keeper Salman Akbar was declared the best custodian of the event.
Pakistan’s centre forward Mahmood Ali shared the top scorer prize with the egyptian player, both scored eight goals each.
Pakistan led 2-0 against Greece in their last encounter after wasting several sitters in the session.
Spearhead Ali scored three goals while striker Naeem Akbar was on target twice and Imran Warsi, Imran Khan each scored one goal.
In the other matches of the day Scotland beat France 3-2 ande Egypt played 1-1 draw against India.—APP
