Toba district govt to levy taxes on 13 items

TOBA TEK SINGH, March 15: The district government has decided to levy taxes and licence fee on 13 items and invited objections from the public till April 23.

The proposed levies include Rs2,000 on ice cream, surgical and cotton goods manufacturers, agency for gas cylinder and fireworks preparation; Rs3,000 on wheat husk pressing factory, Rs1,000 on wheat husk sellers; Rs5,000 on ammunition manufacturing, marble factories, bricks kiln and rice shellers; Rs1,200 on cloth and yarn dyeing; and Rs1,000 on permit for petrol or kerosene agency. The taxes are levied on annual basis.

The district government proposed Rs25,000 for issuance of no objection certificate for petrol station. The hearing of objections will be held on April 28.

SUICIDES: A teenaged boy and a married woman allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents on Saturday.

The nikah of Faryad, 17, of Arrouti, had been solemnized with his cousin some time ago and rukhsati had not yet taken place. In the meantime, both the families developed some differences.

The parents of Faryad forced him to divorce his wife. The disappointed boy locked himself in a room and hanged himself with a rope tied to the ceiling fan.

Nasrin Akhtar, a mother of four, was reportedly upset due to some domestic problems. She jumped in front of a train near Zia Colony and was crushed under its wheels.
