The disease, they said, had also been detected in many villages of Nara taluka, including Qadan Wari and Janro Molro.

A free medical camp was organized by eight doctors, led by Dr Manzoor Memon of Krachi, in Chondiko town. The camp was organized in collaboration with the Thardeep, a non-governmental organization.

Dr Memon said over 47 persons were found to be infected by a severe form of the disease, while about 300 others were infected by an standard strain of the skin disease.

At least 147 persons were found to be infected by the disease out of the 1,657 people examined by the medical team.

Meanwhile, residents of these areas, contacted by this correspondent, said that the government-run rural medical facilities were operating on paper only, adding that no health cover was available to them.
