KARACHI: PhD students’ difficulties

KARACHI, March 15: Students submitting their PhD theses face a number of problems as well as financial stress, a senior faculty member at the University of Karachi said on Saturday.

Those pursuing the degree at the University have to spend thousands of rupees while they do not get any stipend like those at the HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry.

A student is required to submit six copies of the thesis in a final form. This leaves little opportunity for incorporating the corrections made by the examiners. The thesis is also presented to three external examiners.

A lot of expenses have to be borne by the students in preparing the final shape of the document.

The cost of typing, for example, is Rs2 per page apart from photocopying expenses.—APP
