LAHORE, March 13: Governor Khalid Maqbool has said the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Husain was not the legacy of the Muslims alone but of the whole world to which he had given a lesson to remain steadfast in the struggle against the evil.
Speaking at a Majlis-i-Aza at the Jamia Al-Muntazar, Model Town, here he said Hazrat Imam Husain’s struggle was not for power but for upholding the Islamic principle that the right to rule was conditional with the consent of the people.
He said Hazrat Imam Husain and his companions had laid down their lives while opposing the un-Islamic political and socio-economic attitudes. He had challenged Yazid’s accession to power and declared it unjustified because the Imam wanted enforcement of a system based on humanitarian values.
Governor Maqbool said the so-called civilized world blamed the developing Islamic countries for lagging behind in every walk of life, while Islam had set exemplary standards of civilization around 1,500 years ago.
Jamia Al-Muntazar principal Hafiz Riaz Husain Najfi and administrator Maulana Khadim Husain Naqvi briefed the governor about different departments of the Jamia.
