ISLAMABAD, March 13: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali have said that whenever there is a conflict between right and wrong, the spirit of Hussainiat remains the beacon of light for the followers of truth.

The tragedy of Karbala reminds Muslims that any sacrifice, even that of life, rendered for the promotion and revival of the high values of Islam, is the primary duty of the true follower and for the Muslims, they said in their messages on the eve of Ashura.

The president said: “The tenth of Muharram every year brings to all Muslims the message of adherence to truth, staunch belief and steadfastness against injustice.”

He said the tradition set by Hazrat Imam Hussain (Razi Allah Unho) and his companions by offering the supreme sacrifice of their lives for the truth would continue to give strength and inspiration to those struggling against injustice and repression.

“The oppression of the martyrs of Karbala turned into such an everlasting force that keeps every tyrant and despot terrified. The great model of Hazrat Imam Hussain strengthens faith and is a common heritage of Muslims,” the president said.

“The basic requirement of this tradition is to follow the universal teachings of Islam with complete consciousness and sincerity in our everyday life and keep unity, solidarity and brotherhood in our ranks,” the president added.

The prime minister said: “The tenth of Muharram reminds us of the great historic event of the Islamic world when grandson of the Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon him) stood up for the cause of truth and righteousness.”

He said that Hazrat Imam Hussain, members of his family and his faithful companions fought against impiety and wickedness and rendered the supreme sacrifice by embracing martyrdom.

Mr Jamali said the spirit of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain is linked with the strong faith, truth, and efforts at establishing a system based on justice for the welfare and well-being of humanity and upholding of Islamic values.

“We should not forget that our religion teaches us kindness and affection towards others and mutual love and brotherhood,” the PM said.
