Security measures for Ashura

PESHAWAR, March 12: Elaborate security measures have been taken by the provincial administration to ensure peace and harmony on 9th and 10th of Muharram.

In the city and cantonment areas, police, frontier constabulary and paramilitary forces have been deputed at the sensitive places and around the Imambargahs to protect the people and avoid any mishap.

City police officials visit the Imambargahs and other sensitive areas to supervise the arrangements made for maintenance of peace and harmony.

District and Tehsil peace committees have been activated to ensure smooth conduct of Majalis and processions on approved routes.

Contingents of police and commandos equipped with sophisticated weapons and wireless sets have started round-the-clock patrolling.

A crisis management centre has been set up at the home department to promptly respond to any emergency. The centre received reports from the districts and passed them on to the quarters concerned for necessary action, an official told APP on Wednesday.

He said the entire province had been declared sensitive and vigil was being kept to ensure harmony and peace during the days.

The entry of firebrand speakers has been banned by the district governments. The elected representatives of local governments and national and provincial assemblies have been involved in maintaining peace and discipline on the occasion.—APP
