SARGODHA, March 11: Ulema should step ahead to bring peace and harmony among all sects.
This was stated on Monday night by provincial Irrigation Minister Aamer Sultan Cheema at an ulema’s convention held under the auspices of Jamaat Ahle Sunnat at the press club here in connection with Muharram.
Mr Cheema said the people used to gather during Muharram and stressed the need of peace, harmony and unity. He stressed the need for maintaining peace and harmony throughout the year.
He said he would hold such conventions after every three months and consult religious leaders in other affairs as well.
He said ulema should realize their duty and try their utmost to fulfil their obligations.
Historian and educationist Sahibzada Abdul Rasool said ulema misused loudspeakers and created hatred among different sects. He appealed to them to stop the practice as it was a disservice to the religion.
“Islam teaches us to live in peace, so one should not disturb peace in his locality.”
Syed Mushtaq Ahmad Al-Azhari and Maulana Ahmad Saeed Hashmi, besides others, also spoke on the occasion.
PEACE COMMITTEES: Mr Cheema, in the meanwhile, directed the peace committees to ensure peace and harmony on Ashura by keeping an eye on anti-social elements.
He warned that nobody would be allowed to disturb peace.
He also reviewed security arrangements made by the police and the district government.
