Woman sent to jail on kidnapping charge

By Our Reporter

RAWALPINDI, March 10: The civil judge, Azfar Sultan Syed, on Monday remanded a woman to jail on charges of kidnapping women and forcing them into prostitution.

The women police, in a midnight raid, arrested the accused, Rehana Suhail, alias Aunty Ruby, from her house in Fazl Colony. The police took the move after a woman from Gujrat, Sadaf, along with her mother and brother, registered an FIR against the accused at the Women police station.

In her FIR, Sadaf maintained that on January 12, 2003, she came to Rawalpindi to meet her aunt. She tried to contact her relatives from a PCO near Faizabad bus terminal, but their telephone line was busy. On seeing that she was unable to get in touch with her relatives, the PCO owner, Azam, told her that he would take her to her destination. But, instead, he drove her to Ruby’s house where they took away her jewellery and cash and kept her in detention. Sadaf alleged that Ruby would invite people to her house and force her to fulfil their demands. However, one day a guard, named Boota, provided her a chance to escape.

During the raid, the police also allegedly recovered two girls — Saima alias Aliya and Shazia alias Naseebo — whose stories according to the police were similar to that of Sadaf.

The civil judge have sent the girls to Darul Aman and would soon record their statement under section 164.

Meanwhile, the additional district and sessions judge, Mian Mohammad Shafi, issued show-cause notice to the SHO of Ganjmandi police station for not appearing before court to inform the judge about the developments in a narcotics case.

In another case, the civil judge, Hasnain Qadir Ghillo, remanded an Afghan to Adiala jail.

The accused had been booked by Banni police for staying illegally in the country.

A Reporter from Islamabad Adds: Judicial Magistrate Amir Saleem Rana awarded one-year rigorous imprisonment to a person in an illicit arms case on Monday.

Abideen Mohammad was arrested by I-9 police for possessing illicit arms. After the completion of the hearing, the judicial magistrate found him guilty and awarded him the punishment.
