RAWALPINDI, March 10: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has asked the government departments to expedite work on the Committee Chowk underpass and Airport Road expansion projects by completing the codal formalities at the earliest.

He was talking to district Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani, who called on him.

The chief minister said the provincial government would release the required funds as soon as these formalities were completed. He instructed the Nazim to complete the estimates of the G.T. Road underpass in Gujar Khan along with a detailed report on the project so that the matter could be taken up with the National Highway Authority.

The district Nazim told him that several lives had been lost due to the absence of an underpass on that location.

The chief minister assured the district Nazim that additional funds would be provided to the district government for electrification of the villages of Kahuta Tehsil.

Meanwhile, talking to members of the national and provincial assemblies, Mr Elahi said the protest of political parties over the Legal Framework Order was uncalled for as all of them had contested elections under the same order.

He said LFO had benefited the political parties as the number of women seats had increased, rights of minorities were safeguarded and democracy was restored because of the same order.
