HYDERABAD, March 10: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association has urged the education department to notify promotion of 762 lecturers by March 31.

A meeting of the regional body of the association, held at the Government Muslim Science College here on Monday, said the working committee of the SPLA would meet on April 3 and finalize arrangements for a protest movement if the promotion orders were not issued.

Criticizing the education department for delaying promotion orders of lecturers from grade 17 to grade 18, the meeting said college teachers should take to the streets for their rights.

Prof Sher Khan Selaro, who presided over the meeting, said three meetings were held with the secretary for education, one with the chief secretary and two with the minister for education in the last four months but the promotion orders were not issued.

The meeting demanded of the vice-chancellor of the University of Sindh to initiate an inquiry against controllers of examinations for irregularities in duties.
