KARACHI: Reckless driving claims two lives: 40 huts destroyed by fire

KARACHI, March 10: Reckless driving claimed two lives in the city on Monday.
A man died in a road accident in Korangi Industrial Area.
The police said 60-year-old Zain Gul was knocked down by a speeding passenger coach near Vita chowrangi in Korangi Industrial Area while he was on way to work on a bicycle.
The police claimed to have taken the coach driver into custody and impounded the vehicle.
The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post- mortem.
A young motorcyclist died when a speeding bus knocked him down on M. A. Jinnah Road in the evening.
The police said Imtiaz, aged 30, riding a motorcycle (SGD-1019), was knocked down by a bus (LEV-1255) of route 4-J. He died on the spot.
The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
FIRE: At least 40 huts were gutted by fire in Gulistan-i- Jauhar on Monday.
A spokesman for the fire department told this reporter that a fire broke out in the huts at block-14. It spread quickly and 40 huts were gutted. No loss of life or injury was reported.
Four fire-tenders were pressed into service to put out the fire. It took them two hours to put out the fire. The cause of the fire and the extent of losses could not immediately ascertained, the spokesman said.
DIES OF BURNS: A teenage boy who had suffered burns died at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital on Monday.
The police said Javed, aged 17, suffered serious burns while making tea at his house in New Karachi’s sector 11-D. He suffered burns due to gas leakage. He was student of class X.
He was admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died.
DIES OF ELECTROCUTION: A young man was electrocuted while repairing an electric motor at a cement block-making yard in Korangi on Monday.
The police said Jalal Khan, aged 35, a worker at a block-making yard, died when he suffered a severe electric shock while repairing an electric motor.
He was rushed to the JPMC where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
ARRESTS: The police arrested 36 criminals in the city in the past 24 hours and recovered arms and narcotics from their possession, adds APP.
The police seized 310 gram hashish, three bottles of liquor, 14 gram heroin, Rs2,900 stolen and stake money from them.
The police registered four cases of theft in the police limits of Gizri, New Town, North Nazimabad and Artillery Maidan in the past 24 hours.
