LAHORE, March 9: A last gasp goal by Kamran Zaidi and 1 1/2 goal handicap enabled Black Berets to beat Dark Horse 7 1/2-7 in the Spring Cup Polo tournament on Sunday.
Berets led the first chukker 4 1/2-3 as both teams scored three goals each. Kamran who scored three goals in the match drew first blood by scoring his first two goals in the first chukker.
Yaqoob Sial added the third goal. For Dark Horse, Azhar Ali scored two goals while Hussain Iftikhar slammed in a goal.
In the second chukker, Dark Horse reduced the margin to 5 1/2- 5 by scoring two goals while Berets could only score a goal through Ahsan Javed Sher. Hussain Iftikhar and Umar Sadik scored a goal each for Dark Horse.
The losers went ahead for the first time in the match 7- 6 1/2 in the third chukker by scoring two more goals. Hussain scored two more goals while Ahsan struck his second for Black Berets.
Kamran converted a 30 yard penalty hit in the fourth chukker to score the solitary goal of the chukker which also proved the match-winner.
Four goals by Shah Qubilai Alam and three by Taimur Malik enabled Guard Rice to crush Sherwood 10- 3 1/2 in another match.
Sherwood were playing with 2 1/2 goals on handicap. Guard Rice started the match in a stormy fashion and scored three goals in the first chukker.
But the Sherwood’s only goal scored by Amanat helped them to take the lead 3 1/2- 3 at the end of the first chukker.
Qubilai scored two goals while Taimur got a goal for Rice.
From there on, Rice was on a goal scoring spree and added seven goals in three chukkers to earn an impressive win.
The winners scored two goals in the second chukker through Taimur and Qubilai to increase the lead to 5- 3-1/2.
They led the third chukker with 7-3 1/2 as Qubilai struck his fourth and last goal and Usman Abdul Hai an own goal.
In the final fourth chukker, Rice netted three more goals, two by Arslan Najib and a goal by Taimur to seal the fate of the match.
