HYDERABAD, March 9: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company completed 60 development schemes and provided electricity to eleven villages in the interior of Sindh in February.
According to a Hesco spokesman, under the ongoing Village Electrification Programme, Ali Mohammad Magsi, Khuhro Mahar, Zulfiqar Ali and Maula Bux Brohi goths in Jacobabad and Hyderabad and Khan Chandio goth in Mirpurkhas district were electrified.
Under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme, Mir Mohammad Jafari goth in Shikarpur district and Darab Mahar Shah, Zan Manak, Bukshan Chachar, Hamzo Khan Solangi and Shahbaz Khan goths in Jacobabad district were electrified.
In addition to this, 35 schemes, including construction and repairs of lines, were completed in Tando Mohammad Khan, Badin, Hyderabad, Thatta, Gharo, Mirpur Sakro, Nawabshah, Naushahro Feroze, Merabpur, Bhiria, Sukkur, Rohri, Larkana, Ghari Yasin, Khanpur, Lakhi, Shikarpur, Kashmor and Thul.
The work on feeders and grid stations in Nawabshah, Hyderabad, Mirpur Sakro, Gharo, Kot Digri, Gambat and Gajo Khanani is also being carried out.
UNION: Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union chairman Abdul Latif Nizamani has claimed the Wapda administration has adopted a flexible attitude towards employees due to the struggle of the union.
Talking to office-bearers of different units of the union and powerhouses at the labour hall here on Saturday, he said those workers who had been sent on forced retirement or had been placed under suspension had been reinstated in service.
He said the union would continue to struggle for the rights of workers.
He said a meeting between the union and the Wapda administration would be held on March 17 at which demands of the employees, including restoration of hardship and generation allowance and house rent, would be discussed.
Mr Nizamani, however, warned if the demands were not accepted, the union would launch a country-wide protest movement.
He urged the workers to make efforts to control line-losses and corruption and improve recovery of outstanding dues.
He disclosed the Wapda administration had restored the employment quota of workers’ children and added in the first phase, employment would be given to children of expired employees.
The Sindh general-secretary of the union, Iqbal Kaimkhani, condemned the sacking of contract employees by the Hesco chief.
