One killed in Heart bomb attack

KABUL, March 8: One person was killed and 10, including seven children, injured in a series of bomb attacks in the western Afghanistan province of Herat, a local commander said on Saturday.

Amanullah Khan said the blasts were instigated by Tajik provincial governor Ismail Khan, who he blames for previously attacking the area.

But a spokesman for the governor denied the claims, insisting the attacks were the work of Taliban remnants still at large in the province.

Amanullah said seven children were injured when an improvised bomb planted in a bottle outside the house of one of his commanders, Nasir Khan, in the Zir Koh district village of Bakht Abad detonated as the youngsters played nearby.

Thursday’s blast came less than 24 hours after an anti-tank mine was struck by a civilian jeep, killing one passenger and injuring three others, Amanullah said, adding that a third device was neutralized earlier on Saturday.—AFP
