JOHANNESBURG, March 6: Garfield Sobers, the greatest all rounder in cricket history, will present the Man-of-the-Tournament award at the conclusion of the World Cup final on March 23.
Sobers was one of Wisden’s five cricketers of the 20th century.
Another Barbadian, Everton Weekes, will present one of the Man-of-the-Match awards at the semifinals.
Weekes was one of the ‘three W’s’, including Frank Worrell and Clyde Walcott, who were all born in the tiny West Indies island.
Meanwhile, odds on New Zealand winning the World Cup have shortened from 11/1 to 15/2 after two large recent bets on the Kiwis, English bookmakers William Hill said on Thursday.
Defending champions Australia, the only unbeaten team in the tournament, are 4/6 favourites to retain the trophy.
Latest odds: 4/6 Australia, 11/4 India, 13/2 Sri Lanka, 15/2 New Zealand, 50/1 Zimbabwe, 66/1 Kenya.—Reuters
