JOHANNESBURG, March 6: Cricket World Cup organisers expect the tournament to generate a profit of 300 million rand ($37 million), executive director Dr Ali Bacher said on Thursday.

“Our projections, which include gate receipts, are that there will be a surplus in the order of 300 million rand,” Dr Bacher told a news conference on the eve of the tournament’s second phase.

Bacher said 220 million rand would come through the ICC from marketing and sponsorship and the remainder from gate receipts.

He said expenditure would be around 500 million rand.

“A lot of it is related to legacy projects which will be of benefit to cricket down the years,” he said.—Reuters
