Accumulated gas bills worry people

By Our Correspondent

HARIPUR, March 6: Inflated gas bills with accumulated units issued to the consumers for the month of February by the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) have added to the miseries of the people.

A number of consumers complained that the gas bills for the month of February carried a disparity of hundreds of rupees. They said that the consumers who were usually getting the bills between Rs150 to Rs300, were issued with bills amounting to Rs1,700 to Rs3,400 for February.

They blamed the gas meter readers for their alleged lethargy, saying that it was the main reason as they were not properly performing their duties and not getting proper readings.

The people said that they would get accumulated gas bills and when proper readings of the meters were taken they were too high for them to afford and would disturb family budget.

It was observed that despite the fact that consumers of Mohallah Railway Station, Eidgah, Roshanabad, Central Jail area and other localities had been complaining of low pressure for the last three months, heavy billing to the residents proved that the SNGPL’s meter readers did not carried regular readings.

The people have demanded action against the officials at fault.
