KARACHI: Karachi marked as model dist for IT development
KARACHI, March 6: The National Reconstruction Bureau has selected Karachi as a model district in relation to the city government’s development in the field of information technology, computerisation of union councils and advancement of I.T.
The NRB experts told a high-level meeting held at the City Government Complex that the CDGK was the only district government in Pakistan where most work had been done in I.T., whereas in other districts EDOs IT had been appointed, but in the majority of them even the staff had not been appointed.
The meeting was held for the inclusion of the city government, town and union councils into the computerised and IT network.
The meeting held under the chairmanship of city Nazim, Naimatullah Khan was also attended by the EDO IT, officials of UNICEF, the NRB and the Sindh government, besides IT experts.
The meeting was informed that the CDGK’s IT department had already launched the city government’s website whereby death and birth certificate forms and record had been computerized to facilitate the people, and this would be expanded to all the union councils so that its data was easily available to government and international organizations.
The computerized plan will also envisage computerization of the entire record of all towns and union councils, budget, administrative affairs, besides carrying out a survey in each union council regarding the number of hospitals, educational institutions, commercial and residential units, population, parks, roads, streets and electric poles.
The collection of data will help provide details about the development projects for the UCs; and it will also help ascertain the requirement of more hospitals, maternity homes and educational institutions.
The IT group of officers of the city government will extend full cooperation to town administrations in this regard.
The NRB representatives informed the meeting that full cooperation was being extended by the NRB to elected representatives of all the 18 towns and union councils, so that IT was universalised and its education was made accessible to the common man.—APP
