Al Jarrar storms to victory in feature event
LAHORE, March 5: The grey horse Al Jarrar, astutely ridden by jockey Javed Iqbal, stormed home in the last 100 metres to win the feature event during the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races at the racecourse on Wednesday.
Trained by Razzak, the 5 to 2 second favourite Al Jarrar went wide in the straight and came from a difficult pocket to pip the leading chestnut mare Dancing Margina on the finishing post by three-fourth of a length. Odds-on favourite Key Guy Princess finished third after nosing out Morning Bird to fourth position.
The interesting aspect of the race was that five runners passed the winning post locked together in a photo-finish. The magic eye of the camera separated them all.
Followers of favourites finished on the wrong end when not a single first favourite obliged them in a card of six events. All events were contested over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres.
Midway through the proceedings, the race-goers observed one- minute silence as a mark of respect to the late Abdul Aziz, father of Lahore Race Club (LRC) chairman and secretary National Security Council Tariq Aziz.
The race-goers also offered fateha for the departed soul.
