LAHORE, March 4: A competitive card of six events has been charted out for the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

All events are to be contested over the sprinting distance of 1000m.

The fields for the events are big, ranging from 12 to 18 contestants in each race and packed with form sprinters, who have been performing well recently. In all, 87 acceptors will be contesting, barring last-minute withdrawals.

The feature event, the Sangla Hill Plate, a class VII division V (A), has a dozen runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. Of them four are on chance. They are: Al Jarrar, Morning Bird, Green Hill and Key Guy Princess. By virtue of his facile victory on February 5 last, the grey son of Yateem out-of- Black Fish, Al Jarrar is being fancied to win the event.

The other three should fight out for less remunerative positions.

Interestingly the trainer of Al Jarrar had been fined rupees 3000 by the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards for in-and-out running of his horse and severely warned for future.

The supporting event, the Sangla Hill Plate class VII division V (B) has 18 contestants. The speediest among them are: Silk Route, Zuhair Choice, Lucky Credit Queen and Easy To Listen. They should fight it out.

At least six contestants come into reckoning in the Sangla Hill Plate class VII division VI race. They are: Al Trui Princess, Free My Heart, Waseem Love, Royal Harban, Qandhar and Divine Force. How many of them are tried is a big question mark? They should battle for the supremacy. Likewise in other events there are more than four chance contenders in each race who make the card contesting.

The first race will be held at 1.30 pm.
