One injured in mosque attack

By Our Correspondent

Dera Ismail KHAN, March 4: One person was  injured when  two  masked men opened fire on worshippers outside a  mosque during  fajar prayers here on Tuesday.

The attack occured at the mosque located at Husainia Chowk, the city’s congested and most sensitive area. The armed men opened  fire  with pistols when worshippers were coming out from the mosque after offering prayers .

As a result, Shakeel Hussain son of Khuda Bakhsh, was  injured while another man, Sher Shah, escaped narrowly.  The culprits escaped from the spot.

The  mosque is surrounded by a number of Imambargahs in the city area. The firing incident at the beginning  of  Muharram has  created  a tense atmosphere.

Meanwhile, the District Police Officer, Usman Zakria, in a  briefing at  his  office  on Tuesday, said that all possible  security measures had been finalized to maintain peace and harmony during Muharram and stern action would be taken against those  who would disturb the  law and order.

He also stated that the army would be called out to assist the police in maintaining  law  and  order  and troops  would  be  deployed  at all sensitive spots.

He added that besides  the army, 30  platoons  of the Frontier  Constabulary and one wing of the Frontier Corps would  also be called out, while 16 platoons of an additional police force had been called from other districts.
