KARACHI, March 4: The alleged killer of two police officials at the police picket next to the US Consulate was identified on Tuesday by a sanitary worker during an identification parade before a judicial magistrate.
The sanitary worker, who worked at the same lavatory where the alleged killer had snatched the rifle of a cop after shooting and wounding him, also recorded his statement under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Zulfiqar Ali, the alleged attacker, was brought amid tight security to the court of the Judicial Magistrate, South, Rahmat Ullah Moro, who conducted the identification parade and recorded the statement of Javed Masih.
The witness deposed that the alleged killer was standing nearby at the Frere Hall when the policeman went inside the lavatory. As the cop came out of the
lavatory, the attacker shot and wounded him, took the rifle of the injured
cop, walked towards the police picket and opened fire.
Sub-inspectors Ameer Badshah and Murtaza were killed instantly and five others, three of them cops and another Rangers jawan, were injured when the alleged attacker opened fire at their picket with the rifle he had snatched from his first victim.
Acquitted: MPA Mohammad Yunus Khan, an arrested leader of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, was acquitted on Tuesday in a case pertaining to violation of Section 144.
JM Zabiha Khattak exonerated the Haqiqi MPA of the charge on an application filed for his acquittal under section 249-A of the CrPC.
The Haqiqi MPA was arrested on Dec 10 last by the police for his alleged involvement in the murder of a cab driver.
The case pertained to the killing of driver, Kafil Uddin, and wounding of his passenger, Rafiqun Nisa, in a firing incident in July last year within the limits of the Malir City police.
The additional district and sessions judge, Malir, Abdul Malik, has declared the party chief, Afaq Ahmed, secretary general, Aamir Khan, Imtiaz Koti and Danish as proclaimed offenders in this case.
CONVICTED: The additional district and sessions judge, Central, Ghulam Qadir Leghari, sentenced two men to serve a 10- year term for possessing fake local currency.
Manzoor Ahmed and Mohammed Aslam were arrested last year by the Gulbahar police.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs25,000 each on the convicts and ordered that the defaulter on the payment would have to undergo an additional six-month term.
Meanwhile, the same court ordered registration of case against two cops of the court police for abetting with two convicts, who ransacked the courtroom on Monday evening after being sentenced by the judge.
The city court police registered the case against convicts Shahid and Rashid and constables Qamar and Iqbal.
Shahid and Rashid had earlier been convicted for committing dacoity, attempt to murder and shootout with police. They were sentenced to suffer a 14-year term.
The convicts, however, moved to the Sindh High Court against the trial court judgement. The SHC remanded back the case for a retrial.
After conducting the retrial, the judge sentenced the two to suffer a seven-year term. The two convicts were taken away by the court police officials after the judgement. However, after a short while, the policemen brought the convicts to the court-room again and they misbehaved with the court staff and ransacked the court room.
A case against them was registered on the complaint of the reader of the court, Zahoor Ahmed.
