LAHORE, March 3: The Punjab Baitul Maal has decided to provide financial assistance to the Punjab University for its newly established Child Welfare Centre.
Baitul Maal Chief Executive-cum-Managing Director Muhammad Sarfraz announced it at a meeting with PU Vice-Chancellor Arshad Mahmood on Monday.
Mr Sarfraz also visited the centre established at the university’s residential colony and met the special children, who are suffering from speech problems, psychiatric illness and visual as well as orthopaedic defects.
Girl students are also being taught cloth cutting, stitching, tailoring and sewing besides teaching of Nazra Quran and prayers at the centre.
VACANT POSTS: The PU vice-chancellor said the varsity would fill the 69 vacant posts of professors, associate professors, assistant professors and lecturers this year.
He said the posts were being advertised to arrange a health competition among the applicants.
The PU has so far recruited 300 teachers in 108 selection boards meeting during the last three and a half years.
After filling the permanent posts, the VC said the university would recruit teachers on a contract instead of offering them part-time jobs.
