KARACHI, March 3: The law enforcing agencies have been directed to remain alert round-the-clock to maintain peace during Muharram in Sindh. The directives were issued at a meeting, presided over by Sindh chief secretary K. B.Rind.
In view of unfortunate incident that took place last week in Karachi, the LEAs should keep a strict vigil on anti- social elements, besides beefing up security at mosques and Imambargahs, the CS emphasized.
The LEA officials should visit respective areas and hold frequent meetings with peace committees besides monitoring the situation through setting up control rooms in all districts of the province, he stressed.
Mr. Rind said the governor, the chief minister and home minister have already maintained contact with the religious scholars to ensure peace during Muharram.
He asked the IGP to examine from every angle if there was a need for a ban on pillion-riding, and, if possible, the IGP Punjab be also consulted so that a better strategy could be adopted for maintenance of law and order.
Home secretary Mohammad Aslam Sanjrani was asked to keep under observation the slogans on walls and also make a fresh list of the religious leaders whose entry in certain districts and province is to be banned for maintaining peace.
The CS said there should be no barriers on routes specified for passing mourning processions. —PPI
