GUJRANWALA, March 2: The district administrations and high-ranking police officials in the Punjab on Sunday reviewed security arrangements at sensitive places to ensure peace in Muharram.
In Gujranwala, Elite Force and police commandos have been deployed at mosques and imambargahs and other potential threatening areas.
The decision to heighten security was taken at a meeting chaired by District Coordination Officer Iftikhar Ahmad on Sunday.
The officials urged religious scholars and prayer leaders to cooperate with the administration in maintaining peace during the month.
DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal and District Police Officer Saud Aziz assured the government that solid steps would be taken to guard against any untoward incident. They added that they had asked the mosques and imambargahs to deploy their gunmen as well.
FAISALABAD: A crisis management centre has been set up at Rescue-15 office to ensure law and order.
The CMC will work round the clock from the 1st of Muharram while police, health, PTCL, Wapda, Sui Gas, Civil Defence, TMA and other agencies will also remain on duty.
Elaborating on it, DPO Zafar Abbas Luk told newsmen that officials on duty at the crisis centre would receive and convey vital messages regarding the law and order situation. He added that peace committees at the police stations had also been activated and the SHOs concerned had been asked to patrol their respective areas.
He said special police teams had been constituted to round up hardened criminals, proclaimed offenders and suspects to bring down the district crime graph.
Traders, representatives of religious outfits and office-bearers of active non-government organizations had been taken into confidence before formulating Muharram plans, the DPO said.
SARGODHA: The administration lags behind none in tightening security at all the sensitive localities, a peace committee observed at a meeting.
District Nazim Malik Amjad Ali Noon presided over the meeting, which was called in to finalize the security arrangements here.
As Sargodha has been declared the most sensitive district, the local government has set up a control room, which will keep an eye on all the happenings during Muharram. The Nazim directed the officials concerned to arrange meetings with leaders of various religious factions and ask them to live in harmony with one another.
GUJRAT: The district police have chalked out a fool-proof security plan to guard against any eventuality in Muharram.
A police spokesman said on Sunday the high-level police officials reviewed arrangements in this regard at a meeting two days ago.
The provincial education minister, who was chairing the meeting, was informed that police had been deployed at all the sensitive spots in the district.
He was also informed that processionists had been asked to use only permitted routes and be time-conscious.
SIALKOT: The district government has declared 29 places sensitive in Muharram.
They include Jamia Mosque Do Darwaza, Saint Imam Sahib’s shrine, Tehsil Bazaar, Garhi Boora, Cantonment, Malakey Kalan, Beejawai, Pannuwal, Dogran Kalan, Kotli Loharan (East), Partanwali, Syedanwali (East), Uggoki and Kulluwal, Daska, chowk Darul Aloom Madria Daska Kalan, Sambrial and Rasoolpura.
SHEIKHUPURA: Tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Mahmoodul Haq Shaheen urged religious scholars to maintain peace and harmony in Muharram.
Presiding over a meeting, the Nazim said security arrangements had been finalized in the district.
