HYDERABAD: MMA asks US to destroy Israel’s WMDs

By Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, March 2: MMA senator and Naib Ameer Jamaat-i-Islami, Prof Ghafoor Ahmed, has said that if the US was really interested in the elimination of weapons of mass destruction then its main target should be Israel which possessed more dangerous weapons than Iraq including nuclear bombs.

He was speaking at a reception hosted in his honour at the Preston University campus Saturday evening.

He said after the disintegration of the Soviet Union, America had lost its mental balance.

He said after the break-up of the Soviet Union, America had become the only superpower and instead of working for the betterment of humanity, it was trying to destroy everything in the world.

He said America had given a licence to Israel to build up an arsenal of weapons of mass destruction but it was not prepared to tolerate the existence of Iraq.

Prof Ghafoor Ahmed pointed out that on the insistence of America, the UN had passed a resolution under which inspectors were appointed to oversee the elimination of weapons in Iraq but now America was not even prepared to consider the report of these inspectors.

He said the UN inspectors had openly stated that Iraq was cooperating with them but the US was preparing to launch an attack against Iraq, notwithstanding strong opposition from the non-aligned countries, the Arab League, the OIC and even permanent members of the Security Council: Russia, China and France.

He said tens of millions of people throughout the world including European countries had held protest demonstrations against the war but America was totally oblivious of these protests.

He said President Gen Pervez Musharraf had paid tribute to the Malaysian prime minister for demonstrating courage.

A large number of MMA leaders and workers attended the function.

SNP: The chairman of his own faction of the Sindh National Party, Ameer Bhambro, announced on Sunday that his party would launch a struggle for the rights of Sindh from March 4 and hold protest demonstrations and observe hunger strikes in all the towns of Badin district on March 5.

He was speaking at a press conference at the press club along with party spokesman, Ashraf Noonari.

He said that the resources of Sindh were being looted and plundered and the people had been demoralized to such an extent that they were unable to raise their voice against these inhuman excesses.

He said that the people of Sindh had even been deprived of their right of sovereignty.

He demanded that Sindh should be given its due right in the NFC Award, the income from all the resources of Sindh should be spent on the welfare of the people of Sindh, a law should be enacted to eliminate tribal wars and the black custom of Karo-kari, Sindh should be given its due share of water, and the influx of outsiders aimed at converting the indigenous population into a minority should be stopped.

He demanded that the greater Thal canal project and other water projects on the River Indus should be shelved, the prices of crops should be increased, and more advertisements should be given to the Sindhi press.

Mr Bhambro said that the judicial system had been totally destroyed.
