Sheikhupura triumph

LAHORE, March 1: Sheikhupura with 69 points won the Punjab Powerlifting Championship at the Punjab University Old Campus on Saturday.

Lahore with 62 points and Gujrat with 50 earned the second and third slots, respectively.

Khalil Nazir of Sheikhupura was declared best lifter of the championship.

Meanwhile, trials to select Pakistan team for the Asian Championship-2003 to be held in Kazakhstan in April were also conducted.

Imran Khalid of Wapda set four new national records in 100 kgs weight category and also created a new Asian record by lifting a total weight of 900 kgs in the trials.

He also created a new Asian record in squat by lifting 352.5 kg weight.

Results (tabulate shows, name of player, team, squat, bench press , dead lift and total weights):

90 kgs: Sultan Baluch (Lahore) 220, 160, 230=610. Ansar Iqbal (Sargodha), Shahid Ashraf (Kasur).

100 kgs: Khalil Nazir (Sheikhupura) 275, 145, 280=700. Aqil Qureshi (Gujrat), Ayub Pahlwan (Sargodha).

110 kgs: Babir Waseem (Sheikhupura) 262.5, 164, 260=686.5. Shahid Mahmood (Lahore), Muhammad Umar Butt (Gujranwala).

125 kg: Zulifqar (Lahore) 235, 135, 220=590. Adil  Liaqat (Sheikhupura), Haroon Zaman Khan (Faisalabad).

Above 125 kg: Sohail Qamar (Lahore), 230, 130, 230+590. Louqman Zahid (Gujrat), Ahsan Shahzad (Sheikhupura).
