Steps taken to maintain peace

By Our Correspondent

HANGU, March 1: The district administration has deployed police and Frontier Constabulary near mosques and imambargahs and set up additional checkpoints at all the entry points of the district to maintain peace during Muharram.

The administration has banned pillion-riding and carrying of petrol and kerosene oil during the holy month.

Sources said the city would be handed over to army troops in order to maintain law and order. Police patrols on the city roads have been increased and a strict vigil is kept on Afghan refugees’ movement, the sources added.

Meanwhile, a meeting attended by the elders of Sunni and Shia sects, officials of the administration and elected representatives, on Saturday pledged peace and sectarian harmony during Muharram.
