PM opens naval exercise

KARACHI, Feb 28: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali formally inaugurated the naval exercise ‘Shamsheer-i-Bahr 2003’ here on Friday.

The exercise is also being participated by army and air force elements deployed in the southern sector.

The premier offered his Friday prayers with the personnel of Pakistan Navy at the Pakistan Navy Dockyard mosque, following which he attended a presentation by opposing Force Commanders at the Pakistan Navy Tactical School, where he was briefed by the Force Commanders about their war plans.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Shahid Karimullah, Defence Minister Rao Sikander Iqbal and Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat were also present.

Before the presentation, the premier was briefed by the Chief of the Naval Staff about various aspects of the exercise and war preparation of the Pakistan Navy.

The CONS also highlighted the impact of the exercise to improve the overall efficiency of the defence forces.

Later, the prime minister visited PNS Nasrin at Karachi harbour.—APP
