Approval for TV channels to be sought: Rashid

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Feb 28: Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Friday said his ministry was preparing proposals for approval from the president and prime minister to allow print media organizations to start private television networks.

Speaking to Dawn, he said this would require amendment in the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Ordinance to lift the present ban on cross media licensing that he called “unjustified and unconstitutional”.

Sheikh Rashid had made a statement in the house that print media would be encouraged to set up private television or radio channels by giving them licenses.
