LAHORE, Feb 28: The Punjab governor rejected the city district government representation against the provincial ombudsman’s order regarding payment of bills to a contractor.

Complainant Khalil Ahmad stated that he was granted a civil works contract for Rs24,980 by the defunct Metropolitan Corporation of Lahore (MCL) on January 28, 1999. The work was completed within time and bills were submitted for clearance but only Rs2,000 were paid and the remaining amount was outstanding against the defunct MCL, now succeeded by the city district government, Lahore.

The ombudsman directed the city district government to pay the arrears within four months.

The city district government filed a representation before the governor under Section 32 of the Punjab Office of the Ombudsman Act, 1997, against the ombudsman’s order. The governor upheld the ombudsman’s order.—APP
