BAHAWALPUR, Feb 28: Around 200 acres along the KLP Road between Rahimyar Khan and Sadiqabad, at Chak 5-NP, have been selected for setting up the proposed Export Processing Zone of Rahim Yar Khan district.

The Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) had been demanding establishment of an EPZ for many years. The Punjab Small Industries Corporation had approved the scheme some time back. Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi announced the project during his visit to Rahim Yar Khan last December and directed the concerned officials to select a suitable site for the purpose.

The BCCI, the Punjab industries corporation and other related departments proposed the site near Rahim Yar Khan at a recent meeting.

It has been learnt that desirous investors will be provided all the facilities for setting up export-oriented industries in the EPZ.

According to BCCI secretary Jamil Arshad, the district government of Rahim Yar Khan, headed by Makhdum Ahmed Mahmood, will act as a liaison department for the Punjab government project. He said that the project would be ready before the next visit of Punjab chief minister to Rahimyar Khan, who would lay the foundation stone.
