PESHAWAR, Feb 28: The PML-N on Friday held a protest rally condemning the possible attack on on Iraq and urged the government to support Iraq against US aggression.
Soon after Friday prayer, a large number of PML-N workers who had come from various districts assembled at Chowk Yadgar and marched to Qissakhawani Bazaar.
The PML-N activists chanted slogans against the government and and the US.
Addressing the rally the PML-N provincial president and former NWFP chief minister, Pir Sabir Shah, alleged that after Iraq the US would target Pakistan and Iran. The US, he said wanted to occupy Iraq’s oil resources and the entire Middle East.
The people of Iraq had already suffered immensely due to sanctions and thousands of children had died for want of food and medicines.
The party’s provincial secretary-general, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, came hard on the Jamali-led government and said that it was following the dictates of their American masters without having any consideration for the Muslims of the region. The implications of blind support for the US, he said, would further harm the credibility of the government.
Mr Jhagra said that there was an urgent need to back the people of Iraq in these hard times. He said Pakistan had the right to ask the US to spare the people of Iraq.
