KARACHI, Feb 28: People belonging to all walks of life have expressed enthusiasm for the Sunday million march of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, claimed Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi chief Dr Mairajul Huda on Friday.
Addressing corner meetings in Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Orangi Town, North Karachi and North Nazimabad, he said millions of people, irrespective of their political affiliations, would participate in the march to express solidarity with their Iraqi brethren.
The office-bearers of the JI informed him that hundreds of thousands of handbills had been distributed among the masses and a number of public meetings had also been organized. They hoped that the Karachiites would set a new record of attendance in the march.
PPP INVITED: A delegation of the Jamaat-i-Islami met acting secretary general of the Pakistan People’s Party here on Friday and invited the PPP to participate in the MMA’s million march on Sunday.
Senator-elect Raza Rabbani said his party was against war in any part of the world as it had always intensified problems instead of minimizing and resolving them.
However, he said, the decision to participate in the million march would be taken in consultations with the party and the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy.
Leaders of both the parties expressed concern over growing incidents of terrorism in Karachi and demanded of the government to pay heed to the issue.
The MMA delegation, led by JI secretary general Syed Munawar Hassan, consisted of MNA Mohammad Hussain Mehnti, MPA Nasarullah Shajee, Younus Barai and Anwar Bhoy Tentwala. PPP’s Muzaffar Ali Shujra, Rashid Hussain Rabbani and Raheel Iqbal were also present.
Meanwhile, deputy chief of the Jamaat-i-Islami, Prof Ghafoor Ahmed, has said that the million march is aimed to denounce US aggression and support the people of Iraq.
He was talking to newsmen at the Jinnah International Airport after arriving from Islamabad.
