ATHENS, Feb 27: Greece awarded a provisional, multi-million dollar security contract for the 2004 Athens Olympics on Thursday following criticism from International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge last week.
Rogge had complained that Athens was behind schedule in several areas leading up to next year’s Games and was particularly unhappy that a company had not been appointed to oversee security.
An international consortium led by United States company, Science Applications International Corp (SAIC), has won the contract subject to price negotiations, a Greek government official said.—Reuters
