Plan to improve judicial system
LAHORE, Feb 26: The Punjab Assembly was told on Wednesday that ‘Access to Justice Programme’ worth Rs340 million was being funded by the Asian Development Bank which would considerably improve the judicial system in the country.
Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat, while responding to a question by Arshad Mahmood Baggoo, said the matter of free prosecution service at district level was being considered by the government.
He said law officers of the prosecution branch had been awarded designations of assistant district attorney, deputy district attorney and district attorney.
He said in consultation with the chief justice of the Lahore High Court a new bench of high court could be created in the province, but not at Gujranwala.
In response to an adjournment motion by Mr Baggoo, Mr Basharat said there were no posts of doctors lying vacant in government hospitals of Sialkot.
However, following the complaint of the MPA concerned, the EDO (health) and MS of two hospitals have been directed to improve the health facilities.—APP
