MUZAFFARABAD, Feb 25: Three people were killed and two others wounded in northeast of Muzaffarabad on Tuesday due to Indian shelling from across the Line of Control, officials said.

The shelling started in the snowbound Neelum Valley at midday without any provocation, during which the Indian troops targeted the main road and the mouth of the Lesva bypass in the lower belt with small and heavy arms, a police officer told Dawn.

He said the shells hit two houses in Lesva village, killing two brothers and a girl, identified as Sajjad Hussain and Gul Mir, sons of Abdur Rehman, and Gulnaz Bibi, daughter of Mohammad Ashraf.

The injured, identified as Iqra Bibi and Ansar Bibi, were sisters of the deceased girl, he added.

The otherwise restive Line of Control was calm in the Neelum valley for over a week, during which the area witnessed 15 deaths caused by extremely cold weather.
