UC Nazims demand captives’ recovery

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Feb 25: The Nazims of 10 union councils are demanding that privileges enjoyed by the elders of Jumak-hel Khwezai tribe responsible for the alleged abduction of Malik Nawab Khan Atmerkhel and two others in Mohmand agency two weeks ago, be withdrawn.

Speaking at a joint meeting of the chairmen of union councils here on Tuesday, Niaz Mohammad Mohmand, chairman union council No. 21, alleged that two weeks had passed since the abduction of Malik Nawab Khan on Feb 14, but the political administration of the Mohmand agency had failed to recover the three men.

Malik Nawab Khan, he said, with his two companions, was on his way to Peshawar from Jaroobi, when they reached Khatikh Gandao, some robbers led by Naray intercepted their Datsun pick- up and abducted them at gunpoint.

He said that the Naray gang had been active in the Gandao Road for almost a year now.

The administration, he added, had arrested a man and will follow up all possible leads in the kidnapping case; but it was being considered as deception.

The 10 chairmen of union councils namely, Haji Mohammad Shah, Omar Khan Mohmand, Malik Dur Rakhman, Akhtar Gul, Haji Nur Jamal, Fazal Ghani, Islamuddin, Haji Inamullah, Aurangzeb and Haji Ali Qadir expressed their dismay over the inefficiency of the political administration.

They demanded the confiscation of vehicles and shops sealed of the kidnappers and their tribesmen to get the release of Malik Nawab Khan and his companions.
