KASUR, Feb 24: District Nazim Rana Imtiaz Ahmad Khan is spending a major chunk of development funds on his own town in Pattoki tehsil besides obliging the PML-Q representatives.
This was alleged by PPP MNA Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmad while talking to Dawn at his residence here on Monday.
He said that development works in Kasur had been adversely affected because millions of rupees were also being wasted in the paying rent of offices and salaries of union councils’ staff.
The purpose of introducing the new district government system was nothing but to gain the support for pro-government candidates in the last general elections, he alleged.
Most of the MNAs and MPAs, elected for the first time, found themselves helpless as they had to get the NoC from the district Nazim and bureaucracy for posting officers of their choice in the district, he said.
Present on the occasion, former bar president Raja Muhammad Younas Kiani, Pak Islahi Committee president Syed Sadiq Hussain and others said most of the administrative powers had been transferred to district governments.
They said that a rift had been created between MPAs and representatives of the district government for the major portion of development funds was at the disposal of the latter. Even the DCO had to seek guidance from the Nazim in the administrative matters.
Similarly, they said the chief minister had no powers to transfer the DPO, adding that such powers were enjoyed by the District Public Safety Commission comprising members of the district council and nominees of the governor.
Mr Kazmi said only police seemed to be satisfied because they were no more answerable to MNAs and MPAs under the new police system.
Terming the allegations baseless, District Nazim Rana Imtiaz asserted that funds were being allocated to all the three tehsils in accordance with their population.
He said millions of rupees were being incurred on projects of the dual carriageway from Kasur to Lahore, water treatment plant and construction of roads in and around the city.

Police said Muhammad Asif, his wife and three family members were on their way by a car when gunmen intercepted them near Soling Mirza Naeem Baig. They fled after snatching cash and ornaments from them.
